Rotating you lower body first, then your hips, torso, shoulders, arms and last hands release. This creates a "whip-affect" that swings the club with effortless power. Each part acting on the next one in the sequence creating momentum that is added to with the smaller movements. Add them all up, and you have a smooth effortless looking and feeling swing with all the power you can control.

Now for some pontificating...

Get out of sequence, one element taking over and trying to out-do the others, and you loose this whip. The chain starts over from that point and you just lost all the previous action's advantages.

Being under control is essential. Anything done that has the affect of increasing power BUT reducing accuracy is a waste of energy in golf. Baseball it's fine...you get a 90 degree angle of error that is acceptable (and yes I know the ball is moving), where golf's error algle is about 2 degrees on a 300 yard drive when you begin to doubt what that xtra power just did for you.

Long drive comps are fine for going nuts at the ball. You get several chances to get one timed just right.

Re: keys to power?

Surley we must include the hands staying ahead of the ball at impact and also keeping the lower body still with the feet "locked" to the ground?
