recapturing your swing ( feel )

We have all experienced a loss of swing or loss of feel at some point in our golfing lives. One day we can shoot our best score, the next day we can't hit a cows ass with a banjo. Everything feels the same as the day before, we feel as though we are making the same swing as the day before.

When we experience a loss of swing it can completely shatter our confidence because we think it is completely out of our hands, we then become very mechanical over the ball as we are suddenly flooded with a million swing thoughts which only serves to compound the problem.

So how do we go about recapturing our form?
First of all, don't be too hard on yourself. Remember this as happened to everyone, amatuers and pro's alike. we have to realize that our golf swing will vary from day to day.
Start with our fundamentals. Check your grip, posture and alignment. most swing problems will start when the slightest of change happens to any of these.
Take your mind off hitting the ball. and think more in terms of making a fluent swing..I like to take a few gentle half swings with my feet together. This will help to recapture tempo and balance.
Use past experience. think back to the last time you lost your swing . what did you work on to recapture it.
check for signs of old faults. These can creep back into our swing with out us even realising.

Once you recapture your swing or feel, it helps to write down your most successful swing-keys when you are playing well. you can then fall back on that knowledge The next time your swing is off.

Regards.......Terry

become more target oriented instead of ball oriented. Many people stand over the ball and look at it most of the time and take a glance at the target. in your set up spend more than fifty percent of your time looking at the target and less than fifty percent of your time looking at the ball. The idea is we are telling ourselves where the ball needs to go and the sub concsious will assist us if we focus on the target enough. take a 15 handicap and have him do this, he will drop 2 strokes

Hmmm, your comments are interesting to me in that I feel I have been concentrating on the target too much and not enough on the ball. My last round I started looking at the ball more (this actually felt more comfortable to me) and only glanced at the target enough to ensure that I was properly aligned with it. I can't say that I noticed any signifcant difference as yet in my result (good or bad) but just felt better doing this. ???

cannot be over-emphasized. For instance, I discovered my more-than-erratic ball striking was due to my posture, particularly spine angle. I have since learned that when I bend at the hips and lock that angle into place, I more consistently keep that angle and consequently experience more consistent strikes.

Re: recapturing your swing ( feel )

teevino,
this is what I do
I stand directly behind the ball and stare at my target I walk up to the bal and stare at my target, then I look at the ball to address it properly and then look again at my target, do my waglle, look at targer, look back at ball and go. That is how I do it, how quite a few pros do it, but there are other pros who do it differently and have great results. it is about finding what is right for you. I just beleive that it is important not to get to fixated on the ball

Re: recapturing your swing ( feel )

To add to that, I think a lot of the time on those days where our swings feel off, it's because our tempo is off. I think being mindful of that, and having some sort of tune to hum, or beat to count off can only be helpful.
