heres my swing again (please take a look)

ok before you view this you need to know why i did what i did...this is a post i recieved after posting my swing yesterday..."You probably won't be CONSISTANT ( I don't know of anybody that is) by dropping your head on the backswing and raising it back up on the forward swing"(Buffaloranger)... ok so today i took a few videos and think i may of came up with a solution by accident...when im practice swinging i pay attention to the basics and one thing i like to do is take a look into my sliding glass window to make sure im aiming straight down the line at full backswing..well i was reviewing my videos and i saw this

http://media.putfile.com/swing-review

when i looked back my head does not drop at all..after looking closer i noticed that when i look back my right shoulder is perfectly over top of my right knee where on my normal swing it hangs outside of my knee...i also noticed my right elbow is at a diff elevation...wether this is a solution or not im not sure...if anyone has the answer let me know..i went to the range this afternoon and hit several balls by looking back and killed them then i tried to immitate it normally but i still have a slight dip in my head but no where near as extreme as yesterday...and i hit very consistant at the range, and was very pleased with the results considering ive only been playing for 2 1/2 months

heres my 9 iron that soared out to about 145
http://media.putfile.com/9iron
and here is my driver..i was hitting it well this afternoon..avg about 250 but could deff use some pointers so dont hold back as this is my weakest link

Re: heres my swing again (please take a look)

looks like you have too much knee flex, go with about 1/2 of what you use. You need to work on cupping the right wrist in the back swing, and maintaining spine angle, cant see your grip. Maybe a little more bend at the waste.

agree with shooting, your club face is open at the top, more right wrist cupping will help square it off.

Re: heres my swing again (please take a look)

Shamed, looked at your swing again
1) More spine angle at address. Put the club across your hips and bend foward from the hips. Slight knee flex and buttocks out.
2) Your past parallel at the top. When I freeze your swing at about 3/4 backswing looks like a pretty good position. But, you go past that and then cast the club as the first move from the top
3) At impact you are almost straight up and down. If you look at any pro sequence, they have retained the body angle as their arms go through. to look at the ball after impact, simply turn your head to the side.

Im sure #2 and #3 will come after working on your address position. Hope this helps, mike.

Re: heres my swing again (please take a look)

hello shamed04,

It's quite a good swing but you are a bit across the line at the top,
Try to point the club quite far left at the top and it should make it perfect,

Liam,

Re: heres my swing again (please take a look)

Shamed04:

Your backswing position at the top is an issue. Basically your hands are too close to your head and the overall look is loose. One swing your across the line the next OK. This looks like an arm dominant swing. You should be using your torso more and getting the hands and shaft over your right shoulder at the top. Your hands will be further from your head if you do this. One good training aid for the backswing is a device called the right angle which fits on your right elbow. By training and focusing on your right elbow you can control the position the club at the top of the backswing.

Also, one of the toughest things to do is monitor your top of the backswing position. I noticed you looking back at it which really does not help because you are changing your spine angle when you peak back at it even using a mirror. The best thing to do is take a video camera and set it up with a good full view down the line (looking at your right shoulder). Then have video cables running to a TV or PC monitor that is set up in front of you so you can see it without moving your head or body when you reach the top of the backswing. You are basically setting up a closed circuit camera and you will be able to monitor your swing position in a live, real time setting. By practicing with this set-up I was able to groove a solid backswing position in a few weeks of regular practice. Video taping does not do as good a job because your just looking at the image after the fact and not really feeling what you are viewing. The training set-up I describe was a breakthrough. I also took it one step further by using masking tape to mark the correct position of my arms, spine angle and clubface on the monitor. I fixed a flat peice of colored plastic to my driver clubface to emphasize the clubface position and make it clear to see if it matched with the correct square position marked on the monitor (by the way I use a 19" flatscreen PC monitor which has a super high resolution image, works perfect). If you think this sounds like a bit much it was clearly one of the most drastic game improvement breakthroughs experienced by myself and many others I have worked with. Plus I already had everything I needed to make it happen. I am developing software to use with this approach which will enhance the capabilites of the video images including audible cues which will enable the player to use this to actually hit balls. I am working through patents for this product and it should be available soon. You can use it indoors rain or shine and a consistent top of the backswing position is real important last I checked...good luck.

Re: heres my swing again (please take a look)

wow thats way over the top..the best and easiest way ive found is to have my gf watch and tell me where im pointing..when im doing it right i just remember what i did on my backswing..seems to work just as good as all that stuff you were talking about...although it would deff be interesting to give your method a try, hope you get your patent and dont waste a couple thousand dollars trying for it..lol

Re: heres my swing again (please take a look)

I'd agree with Tim

- Posture isnt too good (on the driver one anyway). Try more bend from the waist and more distance from the ball with a straight spine angle

- Backswing is too armsy. Use a wider stance and use the torso (stomach/sternum/shoulder) unit to turn the triangle. This will be more inside and around than you are used to

-. Backswing is too long. Using the connected body turn as above try and think about your arms going to a 10'o Clock position only. You can then really accelerate into the ball from there

Re: heres my swing again (please take a look)

Shamed:

Your comment on inconsistency may be a trend until you groove that consistent top of backswing position. The pro's work on this constantly as well as set-up because these are two positions in the swing that you have some direct control over. You mentioned your girlfriend helping to point out your swing positions.....nice work if you can get it....just kidding but you may want to take it a step further unless she is a trained golf instructor.

Check out the position of your favorite tour pros at the top and you will see their hands over the right shoulder or close to it. If you get your hands too close to your head your plane is too upright and can also cause a reverse pivot with your weight staying over the front foot instead of loading to the back foot during the backswing.
