Re: 6 Through Wedge

Hi lance,
Iam having problems with thes e clubs also. Today I played with a 4 handicapper who showed me that the shaft should really be in line with the centre of your body (belly button). Having tried this I certainly got a better connection and ball flight. Maybe this will help.
Regards,
Robert

Don't lots of good players use a forward press with shorter clubs?

The reason I ask is because I do since I thought that was what I should be doing (not because I'm a particularly good player)...though I am pretty decent with short irons.

Hi Lance,

Hit down on the ball with those irons. Whereas, the longer irons and woods are a sweeping motion.

Are you not using a forward press then? or are you putting the ball alittle more back in your stance?

Re: 6 Through Wedge

You should be aggressive with these clubs, they are your scoring irons, pick the right club and commit to the shot.

Re: 6 Through Wedge

I'd say 7 iron and under for me, 6 iron I move SLIGHTLY up in my stance and get a bit more on my right side....but, what works for me....

1) Start with weight EVEN on the feet, dont be too aggressive with shifting of weight
2) Make a confortable shoulder turn, dont try to over do it
3) Inside approach
4) Accelerate THOUGH the ball. Start slow and let gravity help you pick up the speed.
5) Ball 1st contact. Repeart after me....Ball then turf, ball then turf, ball then turf

as far as making crisp contact

http://members.cox.net/gregjwillis/LESSON3.htm

if you have your right hand cupped at impact properly you are hitting the ball with your body and not your hand you won't even feel the ball hit the club it is so crisp
