Please comment on my swing (video)

I've attached a video of my swing. This is with my 8 iron. Shot went great. Nice flight. Link goes to 19 second video. Same shot twice. First full speed, then slow.

http://gszczyrbak.googlepages.com/golfswingwithslow.wmv

I think my backswing is a little long, and I'm doing something weird with my hips/legs. Check me out right after I start my downswing. I look like I'm riding a bull. My front leg starts forward first, then the rest. Looks disjointed, not smooth.

Ideas, comments?

Thanks,
Greg

Your swing is bringing you off the ball. I would work on taking a shorter backswing and try to be more compact. You are kind of all over the place. Work on using the lower body more.

As ChadCash said, try to use your lower body (hips) to start your backswing.
Also you seem to be moving your left foot slightly on downswing. Keep that foot planted.
Your head is also swaying up and to the right on the backswing, keep it steady.

you mean downswing right?

greg, spine angle is lost right before the top of the back swing, this releases the built up coil, or allows it not to happen. you need to work on keeping your spine angle more and this is why your head moves around too much. I would like to see a rear view to check your set up and other things
good luck

Re: Please comment on my swing (video)

Thanks all. This is really helpful. Spine angle is something I hadn't noticed. I saw the head moving, but wasn't sure why. I saw the foot too Hamish. Thanks.

Overall I think I got lucky on this swing. The shot was great, but with all the things wrong with the swing, I think I was lucky that I just happened to get back to the ball with good contact. I did keep my head down at impact and followed through completely - two things I've been working on.

- Greg

whoops.. yep downswing

I am only a newb too these days Greg, but I did play off 8 when I was a teenager, but I don't remember everything i knew then. Just tryin to get my tempo back again.

So my advice is just a friendly visual, not professional. But I still hope it helps a bit

Re: Please comment on my swing (video)

Your swing looks good. You seem to execute a full shoulder turn on the backswing (not all arms, I mean).

A couple of things I noticed:
- Left arm was straight at address but bends a little during the backswing. I know that some instructors say that its ok to bend the arm but I still think that ideally it should be kept straight.
- Your head lifted a little near the top of your backswing. I never allow my head position to be compromised. Perform as full a backswing as possible that would still allow you to keep your head steady. If you must, turn your face to the right a little at setup to allow for more room for your shoulders to turn during the backswing.
