Re: how to take the clb back properly Point that toe up, yes. This is a good feeling and position. Too much though, and you risk getting too flippy with the arms. The perfect position at parallel to the ground is where the face is parallel to your spine angle (so not quite vertical, but closed slightly) Last edited by GregJWillis; 06-19-2006 at 12:28 PM.

Re: how to take the clb back properly You will hear a lot of people telling you that the toe should be pointing straight up towards the sky, so for us beginners we probably end up rotating/fanning at takeaway to reach that checkpoint. I used to do that, but as Greg said, a bit closed is ok. In fact, I've been working on cupping the right wrist, and I think that also helps to get you to that position without needing to rotate the forearms. It will feel very different, but I'm interested to know how you feel after trying that out. Cheers!

Re: how to take the clb back properly It is a good one, yes. It promotes "connection" during the takeaway.

Re: how to take the clb back properly Tonight whilst praticising I noticed that I was taking the club too straight back on the takeaway. This resulted in closed club face and a very jammed swing due to little right arm fold. I then started taking the club more inside of the takeaway, and found that I was hitting the ball much better and more crisper. The key check point at the 9 o'clock position where the toe end of the club as pointing up was being achieved so I was not coming inside too much as to get too flat in the swing. I mentioned earlier in the thread about the club in the belly drill. This illustrates perfectly the arc you should take with the on the takeaway.

Re: how to take the clb back properly For the takeaway, has anyone seen or used the following devices which encourage a correct takeaway. http://www.swingmatic.co.uk/ http://www.smartpathgolf.com/ I was thinking of building one myself. I am currently constructing my own inside approach which hopefully will help my takeaway.

Re: how to take the clb back properly Hi Simon, For me the takeaway is a one piece move, the club, hands, arms and shoulders all turning together on a natural arc until you reach a shake hands position with your back to the target, shaft parallel to the ground and toe pointing directly upwards as it should to reflect the position at address. Keeping the butt end pointing towards your belt buckle is a good analogy. Cheers Brian

Re: how to take the clb back properly I found this key a good swing though when working on swing last night after I read about Tiger's view of his swing on the golf digest site. http://www.golfdigest.com/photos/pho...dex=1&g_id=182 Trying to maintain the angle of the club shaft during my takeaway, stopped me from picking the club up too much in the takeaway. My hands at 9 o'clock where nearer to my right hand pocket as opposed to further up my shirt.

Re: how to take the clb back properly I was interested that Tiger pictures the shaft angle. I have found consistency by picturing the angle of the shaft and arms -- I've not measured it, but it's about 120 degrees. Holding that angle. Same thing, I guess, just different ways. Anyway, keeping that structure together in takeaway is solid takeaway.
