Flat plain

Having suffered from a slice to the point that I fired off 30 ball on the range with a mixture of clubs and sliced every one, I planned to quit the game by the end of the year. I went to a pro for lessons to "cure" the slice, to no avail, and was getting more and more depressed. Then a chance meeting at a local club with a pro changed all that. I had one lesson and the slice is gone. He worked on me staying behind the ball, cutting down on my hip rotation and most effectivly giving me a much flatter swing plain so that I have a strong in to out swing allowing my sholders to pass easily under my chin. Even dusted off my bubble 2 driver and it was sweet to see that go 240 straight.

so if you'r not happy with your pro, find another that you trust. Anyone else experianced this?

I've been to some dreadful pro's, really unbelievably bad. Trying to change everything you are doing in half an hour and giving you no drills to work on

I would suggest asking to speak to a pro before you pay to ask how he teaches, what you want to get out of it etc etc and if it doesnt feel right to you then walk away

The thing that struck me with this pro was the first thing he did, after watching my swing, was he gave me a drill. Using two balls on the target line and 1 ball infront the drill was to hit the rear ball before striking my ball, and of course not hitting the ball out front. I quickly realised how far out my hands were going.

There are a ton of pros who teach this way:

This is my swing model. You are going to learn it.

If this instructor has 20 students, they will all be taught to swing the same way. On the range, in sync, they'd all look like carbon copies. These coaches often say 'you have to get worse before you get better.'

There are a few pros who teach this way:

I understand what makes the swing work. Let's see what you've got, and where you need to be.

These coaches often have you hitting better shots right away. They modify your swing, getting you into positions that you can achieve, not what some books says you must get into. (Like me, for example. I lack the flexibility to get into 'great swing' positions. So I have to compensate and make do.)
