Lead Tape

A good friend of mine plays one of the new r5 Neutral drivers. I guess its about 450cc, stiff shaft.

He hits a mean ball that goes very straight, but he gets just a slight fade at the end. I can get him to hit a draw, but its not consistent. I have heard many people talk about using lead tape if you have a good swing path and make solid contact, but just can get that face closed enough.

Any suggestions in helping a friend at lead tape to the club? I know he should weight the heel...but how much? how long of a strip? WHERE exactly on the heel?

Thanks!

Try a little lead tape on the heal. This is really going to be a trial and error thing because of your friend's swing. Lead tape is not really that expensive when buying a roll (as I do).

However, if your friend carrys the ball a respectable distance, I would forget the draw and stay with the fade. As Lee Trevino said, "You can talk to a fade but a hook never listens."

Re: Lead Tape

...I feel that since I am fighting a pull hook now. I used to fight a fade.

I actually tried the tape on his club this morning. I put 2, 1 inch strips on the heel. About 4 grams of weight total.

I actually did it without telling him. He went to get balls, I put it on while he was gone. Tape was black so he didn't see it until after his 3rd shot.

A big difference in flight. He wasn't drawing it, but it wasn't falling off at the end. He loved it. I have NEVER seen him hit the ball better. Then again, this morning was the best I have ever seen him swing. VERY relaxed. I think that helped release the club.

He is hitting better than me right now!!!!

It you usually bet with your friend, take the lead tape off.

Re: Lead Tape

I got my mate to try my R7 set to more draw, he always fades and never hits a driver. He hit is long with a draw - I tried to claim a one shot penalty for using my club.....unfortunately in a friendly he deemed this harsh!

Re: Lead Tape

4 grams of weight will not make a noticable difference you nedd more like 20 to 30 grams to make any difference at all, work on grip strength and swing, grip preassure will make a big differnce, have him hold the club as lightly as posible and youll probebly get a nice draw out of it,
