Chunk Shots

Latley it seems I am having a case of the chunk shots. More so with my 60, 56 & 52 degree wedges. Can anyone tell me what I might be doing wrong.
Thanks
Dant

Re: Chunk Shots

Hi mate .
Let me take you through the swing and set-up and see if we can sort it out for you.

SET UP:
1) ball in middle of stance.
2) set- up with weight on your left side.
3) hands ahead of the ball at address.

BACKSWING.
1) retain weight on left foot
2) I try not to use too much wrist cock because you really dont have time with a lobwedge swing to release into impact.
3) this is a finnese swing so it helps to keep your hands as passive as possible.

DOWNSWING AND IMPACT.
1) don't rush the downswing . try to have a feeling that your arms are being allowed to fall.
2) your weight is still on left side.
3) at impact you should try to trap the ball between the clubface and the ground
4) hands should still be ahead of the ball. don't try to help the ball into the air by flicking the wrists. let the club do the work.
You must make a concious effort not to decellerate through the ball.

Hope this helps
cheers

Lightbulb Re: Chunk Shots

Hi Dant,

Try keeping your stance narrow and 70% of your weight on the front foot when using wedges. Make sure you are hitting down onto the back of the ball and not trying to scoop the ball up by hitting under it, that will make you lean onto your back foot and potentially chunk the shot.

Regards
Brian

Re: Chunk Shots

Thanks guys, sorry I didn't get back sooner (work, kids and new pool).
Most of my propblems seem to happen from 100 to say 60 yds in. If I try to finnese the shot instead of just swinging away thats when I run into problems.
Thanks
Dant
