Question for Greg regarding putting drill

Hi Pals
I have been experimenting with GREG J putting drill and i think it's absolutely fantastic.
However, i have a question for greg or any of the other teaching pros .
I am having a one or two problems recently with my short putts rimming the cup and the comming back out. for any putt less than 6 feet i have always used the same length take away with very good results, so for a 4 foot putt i take the putter back as if at was a 6 foot putt. my logic behind this , the speed of putt between 6,5,4, or 3 foot putt shouldn't make all that much difference , just rolls quicker but with less break.
I am taking the putter back abot 4 inches and i find it really difficult to take it back any less than this and still reach the hole.I have tried moving my hands down the shaft for the shorter putts but the putt ends up short.
I have suffered with the chipping yips for a few years and would hate for this to appear in my putting.

where am i going wrong? or is it just age creeping up on me?

cheers.

Re: Question for Greg regarding putting drill

try taking it back same distance but slower, you could also hit it on the toe but that would increase the chance of hitting it off line
good luck in the search

Re: Question for Greg regarding putting drill

Remember that in a perfect world where we are completly tension free, a pendilum will swing with exactly the same frequency no matter how far you take it back. The timing depends on the length of the arm, so your timing is unique to you...all yo uhave to do it let your shoulders rock to your time.

Then regulation of distance is simply shortning or lengthening the length you take it back (my drill)

The little 4-6 footers are going to have very small length back...2-3 inches. But still allowing your exact same timing...tick-tock.

Take 3 tick-tocks before each putt so you feel this tension-free feel with this very short stroke.

Then as a must, always remember to never let your eyes look at the hole before or at the time of impact. This lifts the head, then the shoulders and this very small move can make the difference in a rim-out or dead center.

Re: Question for Greg regarding putting drill

Hi Folks .
Problem sorted.
I filmed my putting practice session and found i was raising my head at impact to see where the ball finished.
Now i keep my head totally still and just listen for the ball falling in the cup.

cheers

Re: Question for Greg regarding putting drill

AFT,
a simple way I combat this is in my practice stroke I pick a spot close to the ball and take my practice stroke while focusing my eyes on that spot even after the putter is past it and a second or two after the putter has stopped moving

Put your ball on a quarter and do your normal routine, but when you strike the ball, keep your eye on the quarter long enough to tell if it is heads or tails. This drill will help keep your head still. Suppose one could also use a Pound.

Where can I find Gregs putting drill, as I recently have become aware of rotating my shoulders rather than rocking them. Big difference.
