| Re: Need Help to Fix shanks.....again!!!! Thanks to all who have posted fixes. i went to the range last night with my resident swing doctor (my good friend who is a 5), and he thought I was not turning my hips to lead the downswing. So I hit a bucket (50-60 balls) making a more conscious effort to clear the hips. I hit NO shanks! As a matter of fact, I hit the ball very very well. I hit maybe 10 shots on the heel or just inside of center and the rest were well in the center to center-toe. In the past this has happened where I get too armsy with the swing and do not turn the hips first. I guess I just get lazy after a while. Anyway, I hope that is the key to this mess. i will let you know.

| Re: Need Help to Fix shanks.....again!!!! I normally have these at the start of the year, along with other bad habits. I always ask the elder members about how to play different shots and for this one the most common answer was address the ball with the toe of the club and make a nice smooth have swing and gradually upto the full swing with the head down and still......and hey!!!!!!!!!! they were right. Hope this helps on the range and course. |

| Re: Need Help to Fix shanks.....again!!!! Hello everybody! Just came on to the forum today to find some answers about my shanking problem. Yesterday, I played good golf up to the last 3 holes and ruined my round with 3 shanks. Glad to hear that I shouldn't give up the game and throw my clubs in the lake. After reading this thread and a few others I'm ready to hit the driving range again and sort things out. Thanks for all the good tips! |

| Re: Need Help to Fix shanks.....again!!!! Here's two drills that may help to stop the shanks. 1) Tee up two balls, side by side with a gap of about two to three inches to the target line. Address the ball farthest from you in the normal, make your swing and hit the ball nearest to you. 2) Address the ball as normal, but have ball postioned on the hosel of the club. Make your swing and attempt to hit the ball with the toe end of the club. |
