Smile More on that hook

I have been suffering from a hook for a few weeks. Today I meant to the range to look at a possible grip issue (left thumb too far over the to right rather than just right of centre).

This helped slightly but did not fix the problem. I realised my hands were behind the ball and quite low. I move the hands forward (level with the ball) and moved by left arm slightly upright to reduce the angle between my left arm and club shaft.

I then bought my right hand across and under my left hand, maintaining flex in my right elbow.

This seemed to work really well, crisp contact again, nice length and.....only one hook in thirty balls.

I think the reason for the change in ball flight is because my clubhead is not getting ahead and closing so quickly due to the hands being ahead throughout the swing. However, I am unsure as to why before I was not getting a high fade/slice rather than a hook.

Can anyone clear up the relationship between hand position and ball direction (I understand the expected trajectory from hand position)?

Cheers

I think the key phase is what I highlighted, especially the part about hands low. This has the effect of changing the lie angle, toe high. find an old dart gun and put the dart with the suction cup onto the face of the club, soled correctly with a square face and the dart points directly downline at the proper angle (trajectory), now lower the handle, you will see that even with a square face to the line the dart will point left, the opposite happen if handle is too high. I have said before, it is very important to have the proper lie angle for your clubs, or you will be doomed to making some type of compesation in your swing to achive square contact and solid ball flight.
