open club face at address?

I know that an open club face at address results in a slice but my question is, when I slice my driver 30 yards right like I did today is that all it can be? In the practice net after my round I realised I was not setting up to the ball with a square club head. I hit a few balls and the contact immediatley felt better but as I was hitting into a net I could not see the resulting ball flight. Do you reckon an open club head could be the only reason for this much of a slice?

ball flight is controlled by angle of attack, club face, swing path
so yeah a square club face makes a big difference. Now go to the range and if you are taking divots after the ball the angle is probably decent or good. and if the ball is not flying straight then it would be time to check the path

That was the conclusion I came to while up at the club today. My divots came after the ball but were pointing to the right. Is this because of an out to in swing path? If so are there any drills i can do to fix it? Can a flat swing plane cause it? I looked in a mirror today at my backswing and it was alarmingly flat! Could this be the reason, maybe it means I have to make other compensations in my swing to strike it cleanly. Any ideas.

No i'm right handed but the divots do definitley point to the right. Does this mean an in to out not an out to in like I said. I'm confused, this would cause a draw or a hook, if so why do I slice it? It must mean its probably something else in my swing then.

You started by saying you were slicing with your driver? You will not get divots with it as it should not contact the ground. Your open clubface at address can contribute to an open face at contact but as "Shootin" suggested many other swing factors can also apply.

If you are getting divots that point right and are creating a slice then you must have an open clubface at impact, check your alignment, try strengthening your grip, then try rotating your right forearm over your left through impact. If this fails then you need to see a lesson.

A slice would start left and come back in right ( divots will be right to left) If your divots are pointing left to right, then I think you may have a push slice ( starts right and turns right ) which is a bit of a different problem. In this case the club is open at impact and coming in too much from the inside.
