Newbie Golf Swing I have been playing for about 1 month. I have a nasty slice that will start off straight and then slice to the right about 60 -75 yards or more. I know my swing is terrible so I am posting a few videos of it here. Please, ant advice will be taken seriously and hopefully will help. I just dont want to go any further without fixing this swing. I have a feeling the when I swing the irons that it is a lot better. I can hit the Irons straight and with good distance about 75% of the time. The driver and woods I can hit straight about 10% of the time. I see to have decent distance but never straight. My distance is roughly 210-275 depnding on if I hit it good. Hard to tell when it slices about 75 yards to the right. Here are some videos off the tee with the 1 and 3 woods.

Re: Newbie Golf Swing the ball might be too far forward in your stance opening your shoulders up when you adress the ball. try moving it back about 4 inches. make sure your feel line up square with your hips and shoulders. you probably have a bad outside - in swing path. doing the above should fix this. also if it's still going right move your rear foot back about 1 inch from being inline with your front foot and this will help u get an inside - square or inside - outside swing plane. should help with that club from cutting across the ball. one last thing is to check your grip. you want the shaft of the club sitting in the fingers of your left hand (assuming you are a right hander) and your right hand on the club so your palm faces upwards. hope these things help and gets you moving in teh right direction. good luck.

Re: Newbie Golf Swing I am not a pro but I think I saw some basic things on which you can work. Yep, you definitely had an outside-in swing. That is easy to see. Most everyone who begins golf has that problem. However, I think the first thing you need to work on is alignment. Your shoulders and hips should be aligned parallel to each other and the target line. The fundamental way to work on this is laying two clubs or other long straight objects on the ground in front of you and pointing towards your target. Put your toes up against the nearest club set the club with which you are hitting just in front or behind the other one. Make sure your feet, hips and shoulders all line up along this line. That is how you address the ball. Maybe some of the other guys can explain it better or show you some pictures but in my opinion your alignment is way off. You have to work on this first before anything else probably. Another thing I noticed is that the ball seemed too foward in your stance. In the picture it almost looked like it was outside of your front foot.

Re: Newbie Golf Swing the camera was actually alittle behind me, I was aiming to the left a little. But yes I have trouble lining up straight for some reason. I have read somewhere to turn your front foot slightly towards the target and have the back foot offset. I think that is messing me up. Would it be better to line up with both feet even with each other??

Re: Newbie Golf Swing Yep, both feet even. Your feet, hips and shoulders should all be aligned. People often close or open their stances as an adjustment to how the ball travels. Like if you slice opening up to the left so the ball starts way left and comes back to the fairway. However, you want to learn how to hit the ball straight and getting a propler alignment is the first step. Their are other things you need to do but its difficult to think of more than a couple of things at once. If you take a line that starts at your ball and goes straight to the target, that is the line to which you want to line everthing up parallel. Take the club back and swing thinking about the target to which you want the ball to go.

| Re: Newbie Golf Swing Hi, You are not making a full shoulder turn in the backswing and are keeping your weight on your back foot during the downswing, this is what is called a reverse pivot and will cause you to top the ball and loose power. Make more of a turn in your upper body then move your weight onto your front foot at the start of the downswing by sliding your hips slightly to the left. Try to finish your swing with your belt buckle pointing at the target. I cannot see from this video what your swing plane problem may be, it needs another showing your swing from the back. | Re: Newbie Golf Swing Ok, great advice. I will get a couple from the side and back the next time I go out. Thanks, I really appreciate the advuice. What about distance away from the ball??? How far should I stand away from the ball. |
