Question how to hit a hybrid

I have 3H heavenwood to replace my 3 iron.

How do I hit it? Should I hit like a fairway wood or because of the shorter shaft, hit it like an iron? Descending vs. Ascending contact?

Thanks for your input in advance.

Re: how to hit a hybrid

I hit my fairway woods and long irons the same by sweeping the ball off the grass. So how ever you swing your 3 iron is how you swing your hybrid. As they should be the same length.

Re: how to hit a hybrid

i would say anything should be hit with a decending blow other than a driver. and that is becaue it is teed up so high, if you choose to hit the driver off the deck then it should also be a decending blow

Re: how to hit a hybrid

I agree with Mr Change swing the hybrid much like a fairway wood, ie, ball position just shy (perhaps an inch) from the innerside of your left heel (R/H) and swing with a sweeping motion.

Re: how to hit a hybrid

Any club longer than a 5 iron should sweep the ball and not attempt to help it into the air due to their lower lofts. The ball should be placed in line with the left armpit as this is where the swing bottoms out. Also make sure your sternum is slightly behind the ball at address with these clubs.

Hope this helps

Re: how to hit a hybrid

The hybrid is named as such because the head looks like a fairway wood, but they're heavier and short, like an iron.

Play it as such. (An iron, I mean).

A lot of people find that hybrids are 'hook machines', but they play them forward like a fairway wood (when I get sloppy and ignore ball position, I hook my hybrids, too).
