Re: Swing Problem!!! Urgent!!!

You said you closed your clubface so your club face wouldent open and shank it. When you shank the ball it doesent mean your clubface is open! It just comes straight off the HOSEL of the club, you can have a closed club face and still shank it!

It could be something as simple as, you are lineing the ball up on the heel of the club at set up! Because you have now go use to the look of lineing the ball up on the heel of the club at address it looks in the middle, but when set up to the ball line the ball up on the TOE of the club! This will stop you from shanking!

Re: Swing Problem!!! Urgent!!!

at address you establish an angle between upper body and lower body, your objective is to keep that angle at the top of the back swing and into the down swing

Re: Swing Problem!!! Urgent!!!

Thanks rharris,

You might be right. I didnt actually hit any balls. but i lined up to one and held the face in position and stepped back to look at it and the ball was line up with the heel.

Re: Swing Problem!!! Urgent!!!

Hi,

I mentioned earlier that your shanking problem may be caused by an outside in path. Have a look at this video and see if it helps you?

I couldn't agree more bill. A couple of years ago I suddenly started to have the same problem and couldn't figure out what was going on. Luckily for me, my playing partner/brother has a great deal of experience(better then scratch handicap) and he noticed my problem right away. I was too close to the ball and knocking it off the hosel on 9 out of 10 shots. Using his advice, I started setting up with the ball right at the end of the grooves on the face and have been hitting my irons straight ever since.

Re: Swing Problem!!! Urgent!!!

hi canadian.
when i set up to hit a draw with my irons i do that, set up whit the ball out more to the toe almost at end of the groves and i finnish the swing with my hands low, not any highter than my sholders and it works lol. i swing into the ball with an in to our swing with my feet closed. i do feel better hitting a fade with a very open stance with most of my irons.

Re: Swing Problem!!! Urgent!!!

You could be lunging at the ball, try bringing the club down handle first not clubhead first and swing much easier than you think you should.

Re: Swing Problem!!! Urgent!!!

I have had my problems with ugly shanks in recent months and found the causes were an outside-in swing path on the down swing caused by throwing my right shoulder out rather than turning under. Also, I was sliding my head forward on the downswing. I was hitting most shots on the heel of the club and also had some ugly hossle shanks. Keeping the head still and in back of the ball during the downswing is a must. Your body is going to slide forward a bit but one must keep that head stationary because sliding the head forward during the downswing will cause you to come into the ball with an open club face causing shanks and blocks to the right. Getting the club on a path coming from the inside to the ball is also a necessary move. The outside-in swing is a power killer as well as a difficult position from which to get the club head square to the ball on impact.

Ain't it the truth. My ugliest shanks have been when I tried to close the club face to prevent shanking.
