Question for greg j and shootin

Hi Chaps.
I need help because frankly i am baffled. i have been working with a young fellow who plays off 6 . He came to me with a slice problem. now , i videod his swing from front and side, i filmed at 1000 frames per second so i could see the position of the club head throughout the swing.
His swing is perfectly on plane with a lovely tempo, his set up and posture are superb . his swing goes from in - square-in and his club face is perfectly square at impact, yet he still slices the ball every single shot.

I am at a loss guys , can you help?
aft.

Re: Question for greg j and shootin

First, there is no way you can tell from the video that the face is exactly square at impact.

Start with getting him to strengthen his grip. To the point where he says, "What?!?! This position...no way!"

When he hooks them, start to weaken it little by little till it's straight.

Have him make sure his grip is light. Start to pull the club out of his hands where is just starts to slip out...then swing.

Have him relax...especially the shoulders. Allow the club to release with a snap and be sure this is not forced with the arms but the hands as the last move.

Is this some kind of sick riddle to get us messsed up in the head
try what greg said and to add another view

what I would look at, after impact when hands are waist high, where is the toe of the club, On the TV screen, when his arms are waist hign coming down into the ball, arms and club should be 90 degrees so make a mark on the club shaft, then at the exact same point after impact, see if the shaft matches the line you drew. at impact, can you see a LITTLE does not have to be much, but A LITTLE of the lead arm above the right arm? WHne you get a chance check out the video and let me know what you see
where is the V's on the grip, right points where, left points where.
very perplexing question, thanks for asking

Re: Question for greg j and shootin

an update? SOrry that I did not specify that the angle I was talking about was a from behind camera angle. I would also look to see how well his rear elbow is clearing his right hip on the down swing

Cheers shootin. I think i have finally got it sorted. i stepped through the swing and noticed that his hips were open at impact causing his shoulder to follow . It was very easy to miss , even at a slow speed.

thanks again mate.

Re: Question for greg j and shootin

If I may ask a question. What is his ball position in regards to his stance? The reason I ask this is that he so many things right, and he has an in-square-in club head path per your video. If his ball position is just foreward of the "square" portion of his swing, and in the "in" part of his swing, might his club head be cutting across the ball just enough to cause the slice spin? Maybe moving the ball back just a little might help.

If I am butting in, my apologies. GJS

his hips are open at impact? Not sure how this would cause a slice, many great players have open hips at impact, and one of them just won a tournament today. Now if his shoulders are open, then he will have to hold off his release so he does not hook it, and if that is the case I would look to see if he is staying down through the shot

most great player have SQUARE hips at impact. their hips open just after to facilitate an easy clearance for the arms to swing through.

not so easy when you you cant copy and paste your answers is it?

Re: Question for greg j and shootin

try to find a picture of tiger woods, ben hogan, bobby jones or jack with square hips at impact, you wont be able to. the objective of the golf swing, when you are a swinger, is to have the hips outrace the shoulders, and the left shoulder outrace the left hand and the left hand to outrace the the club head. Tiger, hogan, jones, etc.... Now, someone who is a right arm HITTER, (tgm term) uses very little body in the swing so they would be more square with the hips at impact, jason gore is an examples of this. Now people who swing more "two plane" as hardy calls it may be closer to square then the "one planers" but most player are not square at impact.

aftford, You started this thread asking for my advice, I did nothing ill willed at all in this thread and yet you attacked my character again. If you think I copy and paste then all you have to do is find me a link to a picture of tiger, hogan, or bobby jones swinging a driver and at impact have square hips. If you post a link to a picture that fits that description then you will win and I will NEVER post on here again. so you called me out and I am just returning serve. GOlf is supposed to be a gentlemens game, and since this is a golf site it should be the same. In the golf swing many people will disagree on things, we can discuss that, but there is no need to throw dirt.

Re: Question for greg j and shootin

I think every great player has open hips at impact. What about the X-factor. I believe you wants your hips cleared and your shoulders still square as long as possible. I agree with the statement from shootin.
