hands in front or where?

Hi All,

I am currently experimenting with the club position in my set up. I have started to set my hands ahead of the clubface and ball at adress. I find this helps to give the feeling of an easier start to the takeaway and a better feeling for coming into contact with a square strike. Is there any hard and fast rule for this set up or is it wrong to be introducing this to the whole golf swing.? I dont interfere with my ball position in the set up and follow the rule of middle stance for wedge etc, slightly forward for mid irons etc.

Re: hands in front or where?

there is no hard and fast rule
generally the wedge has the hands most in front and it gets less up to the driver where the hands would be even or slightly behind

Re: hands in front or where?

Thanks shootin. This is an issue that I hear so many views on, i just find it seems to work for me. But i dont want to bring any bad habits into my swing. Once I am not doing anything I shouldnt be thats fine by me. Thanks for your input

Re: hands in front or where?

What exactly does having the hands in front of the ball do for the shot.
Does it set me up for the decending blow?

Re: hands in front or where?

robert, you may also add: hand in front will have a lower flight!!
regardless you are imparting more backspin lots of backspin you ball will check with a huge jump in a long shoot and check and stop when you are chip and run
