Pushes and Pulls

This concerns my Dad who is 22 handicapper.

He seems to have every shot in the book apart from hitting it straight.

Pulls, Pulled hooks, Pushes and Push slices. He never seems to hit a fade or a draw either. I'm wondering how he can come up with so many different shots. Surely if he as a fault then most of his shots would go the same way ?

Thanks !

Re: Pushes and Pulls

He swatts the hands, and they are not timed very well. This will get him the inconsistant inconsistancies.

Re: Pushes and Pulls

I've tried to explain the right hand drill / wrists moving up & down but he doesn't understand it.

By the way I believe the right hand drill and wrists only moving up and down is the BEST golf instruction I have ever seen. It as totally changed my game !
I am hitting the ball really well and so straight it's unreal ! Now we are getting some decent conditions, my scores are going down and I'm hitting more fairways and greens. Yesterday I had a gross 72 and that was in a better ball comp with me not concentrating on a couple of short putts that didn't matter.

I've mentioned the right hand drill to a few people and they look at me funny. Nobody seems to understand it. Yesterday, it was very windy and everybody else was driving it all over the place and I only missed one fairway !

Re: Pushes and Pulls

Very cool...great job on the play.

It's not uncommon to run into resistance for this RHD, it is very counter intutative. Teaching it is not that hard, getting a person to get to the "Ah-HA" moment is a process of patience not usually achieved on the course...it is a mind set the student has to be in to be ready to have something radical ready to be changed.

Re: Pushes and Pulls

Greg, I used the ritght hand drills very successfully 2 seasons ago. This year starting out all I could do was pull the ball, sending me on a fruitless different swing search. I am back to the right hand drills, but what might you think the source of the pulls may be? I think my right shoulder is coming forward too soon. How would you describe the start of the downswing?
thanks
