Angry fAt sHot - Reasons and Cure

Hi!
Lately, I have starting hitting fat shots and could not understand the reason, hence the cure for it.
My irons, including 3w, is making deep divots, starting about 2 inches behind the ball. Please explain and advise...
Thanks

Re: fAt sHot - Reasons and Cure

Could be any number of things. But I reckon it will most likely be one of these 3 things

1) when trying to increase the length of shot you are hitting the ball rather than letting your arms follow the turn of the body.

2) Your trailing arm is straightening too quickly in the down swing causing a casting motion. This can cause most problems including, slicing duffing and thin shots. Try and keep the trailing arm bent as it was at the top of the backswing; it shouls straighten out (snap) at impact.

3) You are not turning level - probable cause: your head is low which restricts the turn and throws you off balance so chin up throughout the swing please.

Re: fAt sHot - Reasons and Cure

If your hitting a lot of fat shots, IMO, the first thing check is your weight shift. Often, hitting fat means your weight is stuck on your back foot. If you are shifting your weight properly to the back foot during the backswing, make sure you’re shifting it back to the front foot during the downswing. Weight shifting moves your swing center back and forward. You want to make sure your swing center gets back to the ball before you impact. A reverse pivot can also cause you to be stuck on your back foot as can diving at the ball by hitting from the top. Good luck.
