Need Help! Hello, I started playing about 5 years ago. 3 years ago I quit playing golf because of a problem that I will explain in a second. I started back this year and I have been playing great shooting in the high 80's-low 90's. Last week, however, the problem came back. What happened is I was playing a casual round with a buddy and I was hitting it great with my irons. I even commented to him how I was making great contact with my irons making two pars and a birdie on the first 3 holes on a difficult course. Then it hit. What happens is, all of a sudden I can't feel the clubhead. Its like I don't have any idea of what is going on with my swing at all. The result, I can't hit the ball of the ground, I struggle to make good contact. Often times the ball just squirts about 20 feet in front of me through the grass. I shank the ball often. I hit the ball off to the right (right-hander) and I have no idea what is going on. Its kinda embarrassing because my buddy and I play twice a week, but now I have to tell him I can't go because of my problem. Can anyone help with this dilemma.

Re: Need Help! Thanks for the reply. I don't think it has anything to do with fatigue because when I go out and practice I can't get it off the ground. Also, the day the problem came about I was riding in a cart. I usually walk 18 holes. So, I don't think it is because I am tired. I have checked myself on balance and stability, though, I will take a look at what you are saying. I am afraid, however, that I am going to try too many things and my swing is gonna be in shambles...(I guess it already is though). But, thanks for the advice

| Re: Need Help! Hi Jim, You seem to be having two problems: Topping and the ball going right. They are both caused by the same problem, when this happens you are probably swinging out to in and cutting across the ball with an open club face . Work on bringing the club on an inside out path and squaring the face at impact. Here is a drill that may help: You may be starting the downswing with your right shoulder and casting the club. At the start of the downswing try to imagine your left shoulder is against a wall and cannot move forwards, your right shoulder should now work down and under your chin, assisting to keep the club on an inside path. Hope this helps.

Re: Need Help! if you all the sudden loose feel of the club head, check grip pressure. so you play great then once you grip it too hard, which may cause lose of feel, and hit a bad shot, you get more tense and grip harder. That is just a stab at it. also, if you are lunging towards the ball, then that does not allow the left shoulder to snap back, which shoots the club down, that shooting down feeling is a feel also. Those are possibilities. Get yourself on camera at least, or find a good pro

Re: Need Help! I think shootin's is on to something. One cannot feel the club head if the grip is too tight. Loosen that grip and do some waggles until you feel the weight on the end of the club. Think about swinging the club head instead of the shaft and really feel that weight. Visualize that club head in your minds eye. Also check your grip. Is one hand overpowering another? Try to get balance in the grip. It may help you fell the club head better. I hate to repeat myself but I really like this article on the grip. It really emphasizes how much you need to grip with the fingers. http://golf.about.com/od/golftips/ss/golfgrip_lead.htm
