Driving with fairway woods

Can you please discuss ball location and tee height when teeing off with 3 - 9 woods?

Thank you.

Lightbulb Tee Height & Ball Position

Hi mdscpa,

The rule of thumb is to tee the ball up with approx half the ball over the club face and half below, this is enough to allow for the club to meet with the ball in the middle of the club. Although this is the suggested method, it is not always used. Some guys prefer to tee the ball low, some high, it all depends really on the angle of attack the clubhead is coming into the ball at. What height do you currently use?

Ball postion, for a 3 wood is very similar to that of a driver. that being opposite the inside of the left heel (for right hander, right heel for left hander You can bring the ball slightly nearer to middle of the feet as the woods get shorter (about 1-2" for 3 wood). the nine wood however would be nearer still to opposite the middle of your feet. The Reason: to allow for the fact that the club is that much shorter, and the swing arc is slightly steeper - therefore the clubhead is at its lowest position nearer to the middle of your feet than it is with a longer club.
