| I cannot describe how much it gives me the absolute S&*ts to hit a green in regulation and buckle in despair as a birdie putt turns into a bloody bogey or worse. As my dad used to say I couldn't hit the side of a barn with a fistful of wheat!! My judgement of speed on the greens is my only saving grace but I don't think I have hit two putts the same ever... I would like to beg all of you out there for some advice on how to develop a consistent putting stroke so that the putter head moves straight back and straight through without wobbling around all over the place, I practice putting a fair bit but I think I am practicing all the wrong things, just to emphasise the point I play off 21 and had a 98 on the weekend and three putted 9 times just heart breaking I was bordering on emulating John Daly and chucking the putter into the riverPLEASE HELP, cheers Wayne |

| Re: Putting Wobbles... Well, path is your ability to maintain a perfect triangle in your shoulders / arms and hands. Lock and load. Never change that setup. Alignment is essential to have your eyes directly over the ball. So setup, and drop a ball from the bridge of your nose. That ball should hit your ball. Pendulums will always stay at one tempo, no matter the length it swings. The length of the string (or head to fulcrum) dictates the length. So learn your tempo. It's your personal natural one...making sure that never changes is one of the first steps to great consistancy. Then it is all about a good read of line vs. pace. I find that your first guess is the best one. Reading a putt from every angle, addressing it and reading it again from there is going to make anyone second guess. So don't. Take your read, pick that spot to putt over, and forget about the hole in terms of line. Setup and putt it over that spot. Period. All you should be thinking once you setup is the pace, making sure you are at the correct length of your pendulum's length back and through. Take 3 sequential practice strokes not stopping the back-and-forth at your guessed distance, feeling no tention and all, the tick-tock of the motions and that is the absolute more important piece in your head...getting it the right distance.

| Re: Putting Wobbles... wayne what greg and shootin are saying is technically correct but check out the "looking at the hole while putting" thread. i too like you was abysmal at putting till i tried that method and for me it has transformed my game if im 25ft from the hole on the fringe im confident of having an easy 2nd putt. i havent had a 3 putt since using this method! ![]() |
