Lack of Iron Power

I read alot of the threads here and have probably all the information I need to hit my irons a bit stronger. Currently I hit my 6 about 155. I would like to get a bit more distance, as I play alot of long courses here in Florida. I can honestly say I hit my driver consistently around 260. I can end up on many holes with a 5 or 4 iron on my approach. I believe my mechanics are sound. Just need to squeeze a few more out of the irons.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank You

Re: Lack of Iron Power

get medium shafts you dont need stiff ones, if your hitting it good dont worry about the distance thats about all i hit with a smooth swing, thats why we hace 14 clubs any way, work on smooth swing and good contact, your hitting it plenty far enough now.

Thanks for the support. I guess we can all set our expectations a little to high once in a while.

Re: Lack of Iron Power

The ball flight is for the most part straight and I would say good height. I have no trouble getting my 4 and 5 iron in the air.

Re: Lack of Iron Power

It sounds as if you have proper swing path and the club face is square at impact. My guess is you may be between shaft firmess. You may be a little shorter but more accurate with stiffer shafts and slightly longer but less accurate with softer shafts. If you want to stay with stiffer shafts, work on your forearm strength.

Re: Lack of Iron Power

I used to have the same problem...... the reason i hit my driver so well is because the ball was elevated so i could make good contact without a good release of a decending blow. but with the iron on the ground you have to hit it with a decending blow and compress the ball in order to get better distance..... for me anyways. i think for a driver you don't have to be that good to hit it 250+ and strait because it is elevated off the ground and easier to hit(just swing the club at it), but irons you need to have a good swing and a decending blow to make good contact, that gives you good distances a better feel god hight and nice backspin. HTH

Thanks for all the input. I do enjoy some accuracy with my irons. After all, I don't make a living at this.....LOL

Re: Lack of Iron Power

My 6i is about 140yds. But tell me why my driver is only 175yds??? Is it possible that I have the exact opposite problem as you and only know how to hit descending blows? My driver shots do shoot up and high but it just dies down by the times it reaches 175yds.

Re: Lack of Iron Power

Yep I took some videos of my swing, but that was quite some time ago. I've been meaning to take some new ones. Will try to get that up soon. Thanks!
