glancing blow (confused)

acq111 brings up a good point here. i agree, but how do you hit with a non-glancing blow, i get confused there, becuase you are told to hold the wrist cok as long as posable, but when i do it seems to give a glancing blow. so i uncock earyl to try to not hit glancing, but then it has low swing speed because i uncocked early. so is the key a flat swing? is an upright swing to glancing? what do you mean by glancing blow?

i have been at the range before and i know my ss was faster than the guy next to me becuase my ball speed was much faster, but his ball kept going it seemed, but my ball seemed to jump off the face much faster than his for 150yds or so, but then it just climded real high in about 10 more yds and died and rolled maybe 5 yds if that. his ball never seemed to die it just got lower as gravity pulled it and then hit the ground still going quite fast and then died as the ground slowed it about 30 or so yds later. i am guessing becauase he hit it with a non-glancing blow.

you guy's thoughts on that???

That guy on the range 90% chance he had a driver eqquiped better for his swing than you have!

Re: glancing blow (confused)

well it sounds like i have too much backspin i think..... but my drive has a stiff tip and 9.5 loft, so i would think that i am hitting way too steep and down on the ball in order to give it so much backspin.

Yeah, so try and concentrate on hitting the inside quarter of the ball!

Re: glancing blow (confused)

hi
does sound like backspin taking over halfway in to ball flight, try teeing higher and moving ball forward a little too, a downward strike inparts more backspin than the club hitting ball when club is starting the upswing, think you might have ball to far back in stance and hitting it squre but with clubface still moving downward and not upword.

Re: glancing blow (confused)

from reading your post, due to your self claimed lack of distance and this high back spin, I suspect a slight out to in path issue

Re: glancing blow (confused)

What I meant by glancing blow is to much from the outside in, or inside out, or steep angle of attack. If you feel like your upright and want to fatten out just stand a little further from the ball. If you hit a drive that imparts to much "slice" spin or Hook "spin" (Notice I didnt use fade or draw) your definetly going to loose distance. Does your ball ever balloon in midflight. if your swing to steep with the driver too much back spin is a distance killer...
