Lightbulb finally learned how to golf....

now all i have to do is learn how to type and spell lol

I have been playing golf for almost a year. not really playing, i have been to a course about 3 times and scored around 130ish... i keep going to the driving range hopeing that i will finally get a repeatable swing, but i just coldn't. so i reseached the swing and tryed many different things untill last nght when i finnally found that description i was looking for. it was in cmays thread (swinging from the top) http://www.golf-tuition-online.com/l...nging-top.html (Swinging From the Top)

that i found this link http://www.crokergolf.com/articles.htm
and there that i found this article Your Swing of the Future
and this one too Hit That Ball

the first practice swing i did after reading that articel felt so much more different than it has and i could actually fell the club head and the shaft bend.

something about this article just clicked with me for some reason. it was describing all the faults i do and and the result i get from them. i was trying to pull the club

"causes you to lose touch with the clubhead on the way down. That's called "downswing blackout," and results in a swing that is difficult to time through the hitting area."

i felt that exaclty. i have heard jack nicklaus before say that you must feel the club head through out the swing.....and that is why he quit playing he couldn't feel the club head anymore. at the time i though it was a age thing that he had carpel tunnel of something like that.... but he ment his wrist were no longer strong enough to resit diretion of travel of the club head by pushnig the club and therfore lost feel of the club. that is why you don't want too stiff a shaft.... if you can't feel the club head resisting the uncocking pressure then it is hard to conrtol the club.

when i first read crockers articel i though he was crazy and that you would cast if you tried to uncock at the top. but if you DS while trying to uncock all you end up doing is loading the club by resiting against the direction of which it wants to go. and you can feel the club head.

and i used to pull the club shaft to and tried to hold that cock as long as posssible but i jsut couldn't and that resulted in me uncocking early and sliding. what crocker describes as "you try to achieve this....." and the next title "....you oftern get this"

sometimes (once every 2 months) i would get what i wanted and kill hte ball but never knew how and still don't know how i got that pulling.

now i can get that everytime. by trying to uncock and throw the club head at the ball from the top and that ressit the club head and whips it around and allows me to hold my cock really long to achieve the "late hit" that we all want.

i would say you get distance from you body, but most of you distance is result of all the speed you create in uncocking of the wrist or unloading all that pressure in the club that you built up in the transitoin phase of the swing between the BS and DS where you try to uncock but can't and it is only at impact that your hands are allowed to finnaly uncock after building all that pressure and release all the pressure into the ball.

not only is this so much more powefull that pulling the club.... but it is so much easier and you get so much more accuracy than pulling becaue there is no "blackout" and you feel the club the whole swing and are able to tell it where you want it to go. in to out, out to in, in to square to back in.....you are now controling the club and it does whatever you tell it to do..... unlike with the pulling you have to manipulate your body to do something for the club to do something else.

they say golf is a game of opposites....... and the more i learn aobut golf the more i agree. if you try to uncock at the top then you won't uncock untill impact.... but if you try to hold the cock (or wrist angle) for as long as possible, you end up releaseing it early.

that is what people mean when release just happens, they don't try to release, it just happens..... they are actually trying to release form the top and are only able to when the club gets around waist high. which is when the eye sees them actaully trying to release and why people try to keep the cock untill waist high and then activly release, they aren't actaully trying to release only then....they are trying to release (uncock) from the top but cant as their arm is moving in the DS and the club is only able to whip through when their hands get about waist high then all that pent up pressure releases into the ball. that is why it is called the release, you are allowing the pressure that you bult up into the shaft against the club head to release into the ball. and that happens from 90 deg when club is parellel to ground to impact to 90 deg past impact. that is the release.... but on video it looks like they are releaeing then and only then, but they are actually tryin to release (or uncock) from the top 270 deg from impact.

i just thought i would share that revalation with you so in hopes that it will help you as much as it has helped me.

and now that i have a repeatable swing that i can control i can finally go to the golf course and play for real.... instead of just practicing all day long and getting no where. now when i do practice, it will be to improve my swing and make it more powerfull/efficient....as opposed to trying to learn how to swing. too bad just as i start going to the course winter hits and i can't go anyways. lol

Re: finally learned how to golf....

An interesting read. If you could learn to type, it'd be easier, too!

I'm glad you found success. I just got in from my new hitting area... I'll have alllll winter to try things out and find a swing for spring.
