| Re: Ball Position?? hi bigdaz try both types with all your clubs and see where you clubs first touch the grass, if having the ball in the same place but moving your right foot out and in keeps the club hitting the ball just before touching the ground then use that if not then move the ball in your stance til where the club meets the grass. i keep the ball in the same place and move my right foot to open stance. on all irons shots the balls just inside my left heel, but on driver its moved forward about 3 more inches as the balls tee'd up and hit on the upswing where the irons are hit on the downswing into the back of the ball. i think keeping the ball in same place makes you slid your hips more to target on the downswing and moving the ball back works better if your the kind of swing that it nore upper body, ie arms and shoulders and less hip movement. bill Last edited by bill reed; 10-14-2006 at 01:11 PM. |

| Re: Ball Position?? Daz, The joke is on you. It's two different ways of achieving the same goal. You leave the ball stationary, and move your feet OR You leave your feet stationary, and move the ball But it all amounts to the same thing. |

| Re: Ball Position?? Hi Daz, I think you already know my opinion on this one, I keep the ball 2.5 inches inside my left heel for all clubs and move the right foot further away as the club gets longer. The important thing is where the swing bottoms out and how this relates to the club and shot you are playing. The swing bottoms out in line with your sternum (or the centre of your chest) with a driver the swing needs to bottom out before the ball so that it strikes it with a slight upward blow, for fairway woods and long irons the swing should bottom out just behind the ball so that it is swept away. For mid irons it should bottom just at the front of the ball, for wedges a little further forward again. Moving your right foot and sternum back and forward will allow you to get the swing bottoming out at the right place, so for the driver right foot well back, 3 iron closer in and so on. The alternative is to position the ball progressively backwards and forwards from your left heel for each club, this method can also work but for me it is an estimate and not technically correct. Try both methods and see what works best for you.
