speedy swing

I have been told to slow down my swing, my back swing is fast and my down swing is very fast. I also go straight from back swing to down swing and have been told to bring the club down slowler for the first few inches from the back swing then speed it up. I have slowed my back swing and it is giving me more control and accuracy however I dont seem to be able to have a smooth transition between the BS and Ds and still attack the ball! any ideas what I can do to get a smoother transition and more controled down swing? every time I try to slow down the whole thing breaks down and end up not hitting the ball as well as I can.

Re: speedy swing

good call, yes my natural tempo is fast, however the smooth transition between back and down swing ensures that club comes back on plane and creates more consistancy, I am happy with high tempo as long as i have it under control!

Re: speedy swing

Hi,

I have the same problem, I used to be a very fast runner when younger and my natural swing is fast and not so consistent as I would like.

A tip that works for me is:
Figure out that the swing is a movie, be natural but watch the movie in slow motion from the top to past the impact.
This makes you ''hold those horses''. Give it a try.

Hope this help you.

Toni.

Re: speedy swing

While the tempo of a swing can change from player to player, good rhythm must be fairly uniform. The tempo of your swing is usually governed and dictated by your temperament and personality. If you have a fast upbeat personality, you will struggle to slow your swing down with any permanency. Similarly, naturally slower swingers who try to inject more speed into their swing in an attempt to hit the ball further will also face problems. In order to improve, both types of golfer will have to work with the tempo they naturally possess and resolve to create a fluent rhythm through improved swing mechanics.
