Re: 3 iron? help.

hi
i find with long irons you have to swing through the ball and not try and hit it, i think a lot of player try and force it and thats upsets the swing, next time try hitting only with 80% power and see if you get a better ball flight. i found that i never miss the fairway with my 1 iron if i swing at about 80/90% and swing smooth.

Re: 3 iron? help.

Hi slf,

I had this problem for quite a while. In fact it was a major issue with me that I could not strike these irons like pw thru to 6. I thought long and hard about it and went to my coach. What was said to me was simple logic. "Hit these irons like you would your wedge etc" After sticking by this advice, I came to understand that it is a case of forgetting the extra "power surge" that we try and instill with these clubs. That, along with correct ball position and shaft positioned ahead of the ball (slightly) has now given me great results and a better all round game. Of course all shots are not perfection, but I dont go changing or trying different methods. There are times at the range when the tempo may be missing or the strike may not be as sweet, but isnt it the same for everyone?
