Unhappy Upright Putter

Recently I changed my putter to a very upright one.
I think it makes me cramped and I cant release the putter but it feels good for short putts
Anybody got any thoughts whether I should change or keep this uptight technique ?

Re: Upright Putter

Whatever putter you use is quite individual with respect to a persons build and "feel right" factor. What is important to me is keep your eyes over the ball when putting.

Re: Upright Putter

hi brian
i do things diffrent when putting, i stand with both feet looking at the hole and i face the hole too. i use a bromhandled putter that goes from my right shoulder to out side of my right foot. i grip the top with my left hand at the right shoulder and let my right arm just hang normaly, i find i putt so well like this. i did take a lot of ribbing at forst but me results soon stapped them winding me up. like you said putting is very individual and there are so many diffrent ways to putt, its finding the waythat suits you best and staicking to it, putter are the most changed clubs in golf as we all search fot the putter that will work.
find a system that works and stick with it. most pros only sink 50/60% of all there putts, and most of them are from 6 foot in.

Re: Upright Putter

Hi Bill,

Do you look at the hole while you are putting this way? I have tried that on longer putts and had some good results.

I saw an advert on a recent trip to the USA that was for a long putter (similar to yours) but you faced the hole and swung the putter between your legs like a pendulum, while looking at the hole.

Re: Upright Putter

hi brian
yes i look at the hole when putting. to me it feels like if a had a ball in my right hand facing the hole and i'm just swinging back only my righ arm and toss the ball to the hole. i'm sour if you did this you would look at hole wothout thinking, and not at your hand, it the same when i use my putter only my righ arm moves nothing else and its easer to look at the hole with both eyes. i have put impact tapt to to if i miss the sweet spot more but was so suprised when i had better results not looking at the ball.
i think putting from between your legs was banned, both feet have to be on one side of your putting line.
i saw a pics of someone putting a bit like the way i do it in dave plez book, page 39 but i keep both feet closer together, dave said he had the best putting stroke he had ever seen and thats why i started trying it and it works real good too.

Re: Upright Putter

Bill, do you use a standard long putter or is it specially made for side-saddle putting?
