| Re: overswinging help!!!! First things first: Welcome to GTO. Now, IMO, there are two routes. One is to keep overswinging. It hasn't seemed to hurt John Daly. The other is to get it under control. You could be doing it by over-rotating, you could be doing it with floppy wrists. The easiest way to stop overswinging is to start your downswing when it feels like your lead arm is parallel to the ground. Dollars to doughnuts that you'll be close to parallel at the top. |

| Re: overswinging help!!!! I dont battle the beast of over swinging as much any more. It is a very difficult HABIT to break and I think it can be just that a habit. I knew that over swinging would give me less distance and control and before I knew it I did it again without thinking it was a habit of mine. One way to break it is to deliberately practising under swinging. The way to do this is to first aim for targets that are well within the range of the club you are working with, and then gradually build up the distance. Another way is to focus on your pivot and finish. I found when I swung too aggressively it would ruin my tempo I would have a poor pivot and finish as my hands swung ahead of my body or at least out of synch with it. It also helped for me to slow my swing down in the beginning to allow the club a chance to build momentum. Also, over swinging may be a symptom of how you are feeling. If you are anxious or feeling very aggressive it will find its way into your swing. So you have to deliberately slow down your mind and when you are swinging easy it is hard to feel anxious or aggressive. I hope this helps, James |
