Unhappy Inconsistency

I started golfing about 2 months ago. Normally I can hit solidly with my 9 iron and my 7 iron. However, as the club shafts get longer I become more inconsistent with my shots. Yesterday I went to the driving range and was shanking and top thinning all my driver and 3 iron shots. What can I do to hit better shots with my driver and longer irons? My biggest problem is with my driver. I have a 420cc 10.5 degrees RAM driver.

Please help!

Suresh.

Hi skhemraj,

Welcome to the golf world.

The question I have for you is: Do you carry a 3 wood? And if you do how well do you hit it?

New students I work with in the first tee program usually start out with a 7 iron, pitching wedge, putter on the low side and a 3 wood. The 3 wood has more loft and a shorter shaft which makes it easier to hit. If you learn your long swing with this club you will probably get faster results.

Irons for beginners, 7 iron is probably the break even point for easier to hit clubs. Learn to hit it well, this will probably be your "go to" club for a while.

Just remember this is a game of a lifetime. There is no age restriction for Golf. The ball doesn't know how old you are only how well you hit it.

Thanks Golfbald, I'll start working on my 3 wood and my 7 iron. I'll stick to the par 3 courses and let you know if my shots improve.

Suresh.
