proper divots/swing plane

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could answer this question i have. My divots after an iron shot tend to be to the right. When i hit a tee shot with my irons and i look at the divot more of the divot is to the right of the tee and not dead square. I was wondering what is up with that and if there are any drills to help me.

Just to clarify you are saying the divot lies outside (e.g on the far side of the tee peg) rather than the divot itself pointing right?

If the divot is on the other side of the tee from which you are standing then you are coming over the top.

I would put a headcover on the far side of the ball during practice and get used to hitting from the inside.

On the course (or in practice) focus on the inside back edge of the ball (bit Of the ball nearest your back foot) and aim to hit this. Or imagine a wall just on the far side of the ball and you want to miss it on the way down and then on your follow through.

This should help you get used to hitting from the inside rather than over the top. I would suggest posting a video of your swing to look at where the root cause of the OTT move comes from.

try moving the ball up in your stance, if that does not fix it maybe you are lunging at the ball

I assume you are a right hander and the the divots are going in to out. This would promote a draw or if it is severe it would be a hook. Most pros are in to out but only slightly so its a good trait.

To clarify please: Are your divots pointing right or are they straight but on the right side of the tee?

This indicates that you are making turf contact with the toe of the clubface. This may be due to the lie of the club being to low for you or the shaft too flexible.

Yes, or it may also be a swing fault. You may be coming through the ball with your hands higher and farther away from your body than they were at address forcing the club to be more upright while still striking the ball. Experiment with coming through the ball with your hands a little lower and closer to your body at impact. You may also want to experiment with setting up with your hands a little lower and with the club head SLIGHTLY toe up.

clean your clubface and put baby powder on the back of the ball, or put masking tape on your clubface. see where you are hitting the ball on the face of the club, sounds like you might be hitting it on the heel, do you shank occasionally?
