Ball position

I find that I am hitting my driver best with the ball in the middle of my stance. I get fair distance and the ball goes straight most of the time and not too low. Would you leave this as it is or try to develop the usual ball by left heel thing.
Thanks
Brian

Re: Ball position

Not a good ball position if it is real. You may think it is in middle but lay two clubs down perpendicular to one another with one shaft pointing down your toes parallel left of target and the other club pointing from the ball toward your feet.
Anyway, a middle ball position for driver means you are having to shift way back there and over turn your upper and lower body to get behind the ball, then you have to stay this far behind the ball to sweep the ball with such a long shafted club.
Its much easier to stay balanced with the ball at or a little back of the left heel/instep because most of your body is already behind the ball and you don't have to manipulate your body to get behind the ball on backswing.
I'll bet you are way off balance now with that middle ball position.

Re: Ball position

It's vital that you stay 'behind the ball' when using the driver.

If you really do set up with the ball in the middle of the stance, sounds to me as if your weight must stay on the right side throughout the swing. Now, you can certainly hit straight shots like this, but you'll never generate the power you're really capable of.

Re: Ball position

hi
also you tend to hit down on the ball adding back-spin when a sweeping shot is needed and the ball hit on the start of the upswing not when the club is still swinging down.
