The Smoke and Mirrors of putting

I started teaching a new batch of High School Kid's Today. We had a lesson on putting. Had a few things come out that I wanted to share.

1. A putt below the hole only has a 5% chance of going in. Some of them do go to the bottom of the cup and defy gravity.

2. Always trust the read you get from behind the ball with your dominate eye. If in doubt aim a little higher, most greens are not PGA Tour smooth. When a ball hits something or bounces a little it will get knocked off line faster in the downhill direction.

3. A line on the ball works well for alignment. If it is spun with a ball spinner it will be balanced also. ***Note: look in the photo gallery under putting, I posted a picture of this.*** I did the Dave Pelz pool table experiment it does work!!!

4. A metronome for music works wonders for tempo and gets smoothness in the swing. Swing with a speed that is comfortable to you. Everyones rythmn clock is different.

5. An at home drill to hit straight putts. Get a small laser pen and put a cable tie over the end. This will be the on off switch. Tape it over the center line of the putter, aimed straight ahead. A peice of hard plastic in an L shape can mount it above the putter. I believe ebay has a little kit to make this. With the laser on hit balls on carpet to a foam golf hole. You will see the path to the cup with the laser.

I teach these 5 things every year. Try some and watch your scores go down a lot.

Just thought I would share.
