| How to check all kinds of plane at home without video cam The swing plane is so important but it is difficult to check by myself. I think the best way is using a DV but I haven’t. Any simple method to check all kinds of plane includes shaft, hand, forearm, elbow and shoulder plane at home. Any idea will be great! |

| Re: How to check all kinds of plane at home without video cam While I like the Video Camera, it's like a rearview mirror (it only shows you where you've been). In my quest to perfect my one plane swing, I've gotten flat. Really, really flat. I'm way under the plane. What I've done is purchase a 2x4 that's 10' long. (What do the Euros call a 2x4?) Anyway, I lean that against my workbench (hitting in my garage) so that it mirrors my shaft angle at address. I then swing, and work on either lightly brushing the 2x4, or not hitting it at all. The other thing that works better than this (at the range) is to get 3 shafts, and slide them one inside the other. Head to your local golf shop (either clubmaker or big box store), and see if you can score some pullouts on the cheap (or possibly for free!) In my garage, I combine this with a full length mirror to check my positions.

| Re: How to check all kinds of plane at home without video cam Hi there, If you have a video clip of yourself taken from behind, if you are sure it is a good alinement to your target then it is quite easy. Simply put a piece of printing paper off your printer below along your club shaft at address click through the swing slowly and the club head should be visably along that line give or take a little doesn't matter as long as it is somewhere near. If it disapears dramatically then you are inside to much, if it stays way above the paper then your are outside...................out is a little better than in if your tall and visa versa. Hope this helps ian.

| Re: How to check all kinds of plane at home without video cam Hello: There is no question that the video camera has revolutionized teaching methods in golf. Nearly every teaching pro utilizes a camera to some degree. Of course, there are now some interesting software programs to go along with video technology and I believe hi-tech teaching methods will only continue. As with any teaching method, video can be used properly or improperly. A camera will not teach you to play golf but it can show a player some interesting things with regards to important positions we may or may not be feeling in the swing. One of the drawbacks of watching tape is the ol adage of "closing the barn door after the horses have already run free." You are looking at an image when the actual feel of the swing is gone. To combat this, I use a fairly simple aproach of creating a closed circuit monitoring station by using my video camera with a cable to plug into a small monitor that I set on the ground angled up so I can view it while I swing in a golf posture. I usually set the camera up in a down the line view but it could be positioned head on just as well. This way you can view the swing in real time. It is unusual at first, so use this while swinging slowly to get an idea of the shaft positions. This method helped in a big way and if you have a camera and a monitor or small tv you are set to go. It was very helpful in ridding me of an over the top transitional move as I trained myself to let the club drop into the slot by use of my lower body versus using my shoulders which threw the shaft over the correct plane. |

| Re: How to check all kinds of plane at home without video cam Tim - I love the idea of a CCTV setup to watch yourself in the 3rd person in real time. I may have to experiment with that (I've got a 20" tv just sitting in the crawlspace...) |
