Unhappy Swing plane

I cant seem to find the right swing plane, especially with my long irons and woods. Is the longer clubs swing plane flatter and are the short more upright. This is really affecting my game because I do not know the correct plane and it keeps changing, my friend say I also do this weird wrist wibble where my wrists do a funny turn. I just wanted to know what it should feel like. Thanks in advance.

You are correct in your assesment that the longer the club the flatter the swing plane, and the shorter the more upright.

Addressing your wrist wibble I interpret this as you are are snatching the club to far inside and rolling the clubface open too early on the backswing. A result of this is the right arm attaches to the right side too soon, and the club is on an extremely flat swing plane when this happens there is little if any chance of recovery.

Here is an excellent drill for you to do at home.

Hopefully you have a full length mirror at your home

Take your normal setup now note how the shaft creates an angle now put a peice of tape on the mirror that correlates with this put a peice of tape should be about 5 feet long so it goes over the top of your head.

Now swing the club back assuring that the club glides along this line this the correct swing plane for that club

Do this with all of your club

You will notice as you move down through the clubs from driver to wedge that the angloe of that tape will steepen

Write back and let me know about your success

Wink

Face to front, if your right handed the mirror is to you right, so you should be able to take a peak at the mirror when you have turned to the top of your swing ok....

As you will understand, while facing front with the mirror to your right shoulder, please stand far enough away to keep the mirror intact !! while swinging the club at first towards the mirror on the take away and then up into the full position.

You will see the plane the club is set prior to take away, (that is the position on the floor addressing the ball) the old saying is try to mirror the same plane at the top of your swing and mirror it through impact and the follow through should show up on the (glass mirror) if still in one piece as a fault or a pro swing. good luck !!

Regards Cliff
