Drills for coming down on ....

Hey there,

Just working on training the arms/hands to come down on the inside - first motion of the downswing.

I'm currently working on the 'D' drill.

Any drills?

Cheers

I suppose it might be considered "flippant" if I suggested the "I" Drill for coming from the inside...???

Re: Drills for coming down on ....

I have no idea.

I've been working (as much as I can in this terrible winter weather) on my downswing to mimic a side-arm throwing motion, feels very interesting and I really like my ball flight, finally getting my driver working - is this the right kind of thinking for the downsing? A side-arm throw as if I'm skipping rocks in across a lake?

It is a very good analogy, Ben Hogan used it in his book. It encourages the trailing shoulder to pull under and the wrists to unhinge and the arms to extend through the release.

I agree with Brian.

I recommend that side-throw technique in the dowswing section of my review at http://perfectgolfswingreview.net/downswing.htm

I have photos of Ben Hogan performing that side-throw action.

Jeff.

my tip would be to consistently practise the pump drill.
ian h tipped me off about michelle dube's pump drill video which you can find on the net.
not only has it cured my OTT swing but it has also improved my tempo and my finish position.

Re: Drills for coming down on ....

Thanks for the replies. I've just got back from a few days off.

The 'D' drill - hard to explain. It is to train my shoulders to rotate the correct way, rather than out to in.

Here goes, now, Grip the club and lift it up and have it directly in front of your head. Arms fully extendid. This is the base of the 'D'

Only use your arms and shoulders. Keep your hips in position. Imagine the curve of the capital 'D', rotate the arms and shoulders along the curve.

Just before you reach impact (bottom of the D) rotate the arms so the club face squares up at impact.

Have I confused you??? I'm sorry.

Rob, a bit of 4 by 2, I can imagine it being a piece of wood on the ground. Am I close. It's quite handy for dark alleys as well .
