Re: feel or mechanics

I have to rely on mechanics to generate a reliable drive, long fairway shot or finesse wedge when I am within 100 yards of the green. Short game I need to feel the shot: lobs, chips, bump and runs, stingers, sand and putts need text book techniques but that little bit more, I need to get in the zone and use my senses to deliver the ball to target. What a great game this is.

Re: feel or mechanics

Hey shootin

My opinion:

One can be a feel player if one know's their swing. When the ball striking goes sour and one wonder's why to me that's when mechanics come in.

Hope that's what you're talking about.

Re: feel or mechanics

just a discusion on what type of player YOU are. Not which one is right or wrong but just how each of us goes about doing it

Re: feel or mechanics

I cannot choose between mechanics and feel as a player. I have to be both.

I need to have a clear idea of the golf swing in my mind before I swing, which is why I try to have an in-depth knowledge of golf mechanics. However, when I actually swing the golf club, I have to change my focus to "feel" and think mainly about rhythm and tempo and balance.

Jeff.

Re: feel or mechanics

Hey

My wording might not be correct but to be a feel player their has to be mechanics for it to work.

Look at Allen Doyle on the champions tour(former hockey player) I don't believe his swing is anything by the book but he has the feel and mechanics for his swing to work (He know's his swing).

I know you were talking about us and not pro's on this but to feel it you have to know it.

Example :
Ever hit a ball or balls so pure you didn't even feel it? I have and wondered why it's not like that all the time even though the swing felt the same. Mechanics, and that is why I'm here.

Re: feel or mechanics

i think i tend to be a feel player when putting and chipping and more mechanical when having a full swing.
