Question playing different swings while learning

I am a self taught two year player. I can usually beat the other beginners I play with on the weekend round. Fundamentally My swing needs help. I have a tight controlled three quarter swing. I am currently studying videos and many pros. I have been practicing a full , fluent, and more fundamental swing and use it when I play alone. Will the use of these different swings slow my learning and confuse muscle memory?

different swings

Practicing something that is incorrect is always bad. It will make the correct swing harder to remember. You will start mixing the two up and then even the once correct swing will be corrupted. It will take a while for the 'correct' swing to become natural, but if you keep with it, you will definitely show improvement.

alex,

I think there are two issues here. The first like Gord said, two swings is a bad thing. The difference between a 3/4 and full swing is the turn and flexability. At 3/4 everything of significance has happened. At 3/4 the hardest part of the swing takes place, The Transition. You have to be a goldsmith when working on a swing. Refining it to the purist for you want your swing to be. It may not be perfect, but if it gets it done for you thats what matters. Golf is defined by layers, how good do you want to get.

The issue of 2 swings, takes on another meaning when you look to learning new shots. I would say, yes, work on it first then put it into play. I have been skulled in the "groin" area by people who said, 'I have been working on that sorry." Learn it, practice it on the range, play it on a few practice rounds when you are working on course management, then put it in play.

I work on 2 things at a time, something in my long game and something in my short game. I practice my short game (125 and in) about 70% and long game 30%. Everyone is different but this will get the scores down fast.
