My Power Move: X-Factor

I guess this best describes what I was talking about in my previous thread in matters of starting the downswing with lower body before the backswing is finished. It has improved my distance and accuracy remarkably, the arms are passive in the downswing, so a 'feeling' of lag is there - whether or not I'm actually accomplishing lag is unknown.

Something I've been doing completely wrong is on page 5 you're suposed to roll your right foot, I've been doing it the incorrect way of lifting my heel for balance, this makes alot of sense now since I was thinning some shots at the range.

Dont get too caught up in their interpertation, especially concerning the right heel. Many pros lift the heel, and some of them are very long.

Re: My Power Move: X-Factor

Thanks shootin, I was trying my best to roll the foot a minute ago, but was unsuccessful - almost rolled my ankle, lol.

I have to stop thinking about my swing, this is why I don't tape myself anymore - I always see alot of things wrong, ugh.

Re: My Power Move: X-Factor

Why do you guys believe that the right foot needs to roll in? Why is it wrong to allow the right heel to lift up so that the right heel moves towards the target?

Jeff.

Re: My Power Move: X-Factor

Jeff, I don't know what to believe, I just know what feels right. When I tried the rolling technique it hurt, and that was only on a half swing - no telling what damage could be done in a full swing.

Jeff, I'm reading your review at the moment, on the backswing. I'm contemplating putting my swing up for critique, but will wait for a better sample.

Back to reading.

Re: My Power Move: X-Factor

The reason why I asked - I think that they are wrong. I have analysed an endless number of PGA tour golfers' swings and they passively lift the right heel in such a way that the right heel lifts and then tilts towards the target. I cannot think of any reason why the right foot should roll inwards. Also, it's a very minor point because the lifting of the right heel is a passive, secondary phenomenon, that is due to lower body weight shift and hip shift-rotation during the downswing.

Jeff.

Re: My Power Move: X-Factor

At the risk of offending some published
instructors, here, I am going to go out
on a limb and claim the X-factor is
about using torque and the muscles
of the torso. The visual observation
that the hips lead the swing is an
observation of an effect, not a cause.
