Curious.... what happens if you swing too inside out

My swing is in diarray these days... well actually i feel like my swing is ok yet i am chunking quite a bit and i lost 10-15 yds of distance even on clean shots.

Anyways I have been working on a lot of things... especially making sure that I am not swinging outside in or over the top. I'm just curious though, If i swing TOO inside out are there any consequences?

Sure, no release. Allow the hands to fire downward. Get the hips rotating and you are back in business.

Dr. Choi, you may also find that you start hitting shots off of the heel, especially if the ball is too far back in your stance.

A wild hook is another possible result.

INTERESTING....about the mishit on the heel..

I do miss almost all my shots on the heel.

Ok, heres a summary of the issues with my swing/ball flights.

Irons. I have lost 10-15 yds. I have been heeling the ball and chunking the ball. On occasion i have been shanking the ball.
What i've tried: Keeping my spine angle constant. And swinging VERY inside out. Because I continue to heel the ball I've even started lining up with the ball at the toe (1 to 1.5 inches forward of the sweet spot at address). That has helped me with hitting the sweet spot and a higher ball flight, but not with the distance. I still chunk and on occasion heel.

Driver. I heel the ball 95%. On the rare occasion that i hit the sweet spot.i hit 240-250 (if i get a touch of a draw). But i HEEL THE BALL so often i hit like 220 ish.

I know this isn't the best way to explain my issues. May I'll try to video my swing and post. Any ideas would be appreciative.

Everyone is different, Dr. Choi, but I have had these same troubles. I have gone to a more nuetral grip and a flat left wrist at the top of my swing to correct my open clubface. I believe the open clubface is the main problem from what you have told me. For years I rolled the club too open on the backswing and subconciously kept it from closing properly in the downswing to keep from hooking. Now I am learning how the club is supposed to open and close during the swing. I have greatly improved my swing after fixing the clubface.

With a weak grip or the open clubface lag you want to have the feeling of swinging out so the hands come in and the clubface returns to square. Ms. Wie. Swing inside and the heel of the club leads and you strike it on the heel.

It is what we do at address and understanding how the swing works that we can eliminate the mechanics of the backswing and swing by feel.

Then it is a matter of learning about the Pinch Factor and Conpression of the ball.

Also there is a factor with the stance to consider and how we use the back arm as a spacer.

Now can we do that with a upright swing?

You bet, a little change. John Daly. Just Grip It and Rip It.

The Art of Working the Club is being lost to mechanics.

Get out in the yard and see if you can do these things.

Take your club if you are a right hander and grip the club with a weak grip, turn the head of the club to the left to close the clubface and notice that your grip just got strong.

Take a strong grip and turn the clubface to the right/open and notice your grip became weak.

Is that not something, somthing that anybody could have done in front of a mirror, yet some of the big instructors/gurus can not tell you. Find that in books or videos. What you will find is nonsense that all golfers play the same or this and that can not be done.
Hey Cmays! CALM DOWN

Hi there DrChoi, yes you can swing toofar inside the line with some varying results, particularly if your hands get jammed behind your hips on the way to the ball. Rather than talk about problems try this to understand the direction of hit to the ball. Address a seven iron behind the ball, use this distance as a start. Take a ball in your right hand and place hand approx opposite right shoulder getting ready to throw a ball, now throw the ball at the ball, this will give you a visual of the direction the clubhead goes at the ball from. Remember tips in golf are like medicine from the doctor we sometimes take the whole bottle when 3 a day is enough!!

I think if you go past a certain point you will get stuck in that position and require a chiropractic adjustment or surgery.

Re: Curious.... what happens if you swing too inside out

The end result of an excessively inside-out swing path depends on the clubface. If the clubface is closed (pointing left of target), you'll get a pull hook. If it's "square" (or pointing at the target), you'll get a draw or small hook. If it's open (pointing right of the target), you'll push the ball out to the right.
