pulled shot

hi there i nearly always pull my shots left although i strike the ball well ,everyone says i have a good looking swing ,i hit my drives about 270 but i take it i must be coming over the top, i rarely slice the ball only very occaisionally i have never drawn the ball in all the time i have been playing , any tips to try? i sometimes think i am moving my head forward before i make contact with the ball instead of staying behind it would this cause me to pull the ball

Re: pulled shot

So the ball is starting out left but not hooking any more left?
Are you sure its not alignment?
Have someone stand behind you when you hit a few shots to see where your shoulders/hips/feet are aimed.

Next check your divots, Im guessing if your alignment is ok that your divots are pointed left.

If this is true then you are hitting from out to in with a closed clubface.
If the clubface was square you would get a slice or a weak, high fade, if the clubface was open you would get the same, but worse

Re: pulled shot

If you are pulling the shots left, then you must have an outside-in swingpath with a neutral clubface.

Th most frequent cause of an outside-in swingpath with good ball contact, and good distance, is an "upper body dive" movement.

See - http://perfectgolfswingreview.net/SL...erBodyDive.jpg

An upper body dive movement is due to starting the dowswing with an upper body movement rather than a lower body movement.

See the following sequence - http://perfectgolfswingreview.net/An...erBodyDive.jpg

If you think that you have that problem, consider starting your downswing differently - lower body first, upper body second.

Jeff.

The clubface may neutral to the ball path, but has to be closed to the target to get a straight ball flight.
If the face is neutral to the target but you are swinging out to in then you will cut the ball with side spin.

I suffer from this too sometimes. For me its a timing issue. My hands are moving faster than my body - sometimes because my body stops turning. This then means you dont shift your weight quickly enough, you come OTT and flip your hands over. Pull left. I can feel when this is happening as my weight isnt right into my left foot at impact (left leg hasnt posted up), its centered and my hands have overtaken the body.

Try and work on getting your body and arms more in sync on the downswing. Feel as if your core(chest/sternum) and your hands are moving down and forward together as one whole unit rather than your hands/arms just going at it and the core responding. If you do this right it will feel as if youre body is going forward and through the ball more and at impact you'll be posted up on that left leg. Remember to keep yout head behind the ball as you do this though

Hope this helps

Re: pulled shot

Most likely, your head..along with the center of your body...are shifting to the left of the ball (assuming you are right handed) at impact along with your body "spinning out" I would say work on your leg work through the ball...if the sequence is correct...your lower body should initiate the downswing while your shoulders remain square all the way up to impact. At impact your shoulders should be square or slightly open but you can't pull it...you will either hit it straight or block it a little. This is a preference for many great players that want to eliminate the left side of the course!

Re: pulled shot

For most of my golfing life I had a terrible time with pulling shots. I rarely sliced the ball. One of the culprits was a reverse pivot. If you can send a video of your swing we have some guys here that can really break it down for you.

I agree with you. When I stated a neutral clubface, I meant that it must be neutral to the clubhead swingpath, and not square to the ball-target line. In other words, the clubface must be square (neutral) to the clubhead swingpath, which is out-to-in, for the shot to be pulled straight left.

Rookstorm - if you post your swing, I would be happy to run it through a swing analyser program and offer comments.

Jeff.

Re: pulled shot

I suffered from the same problem for months. I was hitting solid shots with a lot of power, but they would either go straight left or slice right. I knew that I was swinging out to in, but just couldn't fix it no matter what I tried.

I finally got a video swing analysis done. I could see that I was definitely coming over the top. It was also pointed out that I was too long on my backswing. I am very flexible, and can swing about like John Daly. But that long swing is difficult to control.

This information helped me to fix my problem. I shortened my backswing first by aiming for the feeling of a 3/4 swing (in reality, it's a complete swing), and lessening my wrist break. I slowed down my tempo and stopped trying to kill the ball. I also worked on getting my shoulders, arms, and hips in sync. Finally, what REALLY completed the turnaround was my follow-through. Before, I swung AT the ball. After impact, my hands would wrap AROUND my body in a somewhat flat plane. I started to swing THROUGH the ball. I wanted my hands to finish high, and closer to my head. That really gives me a good feeling of going through the ball, and making the proper weight transfer. And you pretty much have to swing from the inside to get to that position. I've never hit more solid and straight iron shots in my life as I do now. And even though I shortened my backswing and started swinging more smoothly, I haven't lost any distance. I guess it's just because I'm hitting it so pure now.
