Look at these Videos, they may help. You will need to lead your downswing with your hips and let your right shoulder and your arms drop down on the inside.

Re: coming over the top

Brian W is dead on with his advice.
I spent last winter in the garage working on the proper move . I went out this spring and gained 50 yards on my drives. That sounds crazy but when you get the sequence down it will be the effortless power that you hear about. The ball goes straighter now also.
The drill that helped me was the three part drill.
  1. Go to the top of the backswing and pause.
  2. turn your hips.....pause.(when you do this your shoulders will will fall into place)
  3. Now swing thru .....you should hear the woosh sound at the bottom of the swing.
Do this slow at first. Until you kind of get a groove with it.
It worked for me and I not too sMaRt.....

Sorry to jump in but I wondered how far you typically turn your hips in step #2 Thanks for the post. I'm going to give the drill a shot as I have some similar issues.

Re: coming over the top

Thanks. I'd checked out the site and watched several of the videos but hadn't go through the whole thing. I'll do that. Thanks again.

My ott move was so ugly I purposly over exaggerated the hip turn/bump and inside swing until I started getting a more natural feel for it. If this is a new move for you I dont think you will over rotate the hips. When you first turn your hips you will feel the shoulders slightly turn and drop in the "slot". I have video of myself trying this drill for the first few times and I look like a fish flopping around in the bottom of a boat. But it dont take long to get the hang of it. Good luck.

'Sense' where your hands are the last 6 inches of your backswing, then make sure they occupy this same space the first 6 inches of your downswing. You can practise this with your eyes shut. It forced me to slow the downswing and minimized my downswing 'blackout'. Not a fix all but helped me alot, Good Luck.

So would it be ok to feel the hip turn first....closely followed by the shoulders rotating and then the arms dropping in the slot? It feels a little disconnected...like maybe I need to relax a bit more and not try so hard...and let the hips kind of lead my shoulder turn and then let the arms just drop down softly...

That's a nice idea. I have tried the eyes shut swing and it does help me to focus and feel what's happening. I'll give this a shot.

That is the whole idea.

It is a three step drill so it is disconnected until you can groove a good tempo. The pauses between the moves disconnects it all.
