Too Shallow?

Lately I have been topping shots as well as hitting fat. checked my swing in a mirror and my hands were only waist high and the club well below my shoulders!! If I did make cotact there was absolutely no divots and low ball flight. At the range yesterday I consciously felt like my hands were coming up in line with my right ear on my backswing. I started hitting good iron shots with my 7, pw, and hybrid and taking shallow divots finally. I think I already have my answer but how can being too shallow cause so many mishits?

Because you will not be hitting down into the back of the ball properly. Your shallow swing with your irons will encourage the leading edge of the clubface to hit the ball around the equator and send it out thin, also if your weight is favouring the back foot on the downswing or the ball is too far back you will hit it fat.

That sounds like classic casting to me my friend. You are releasing the club WAY too early on the downswing. During your backswing, when your left arm is close to parallel to the ground, your wrists start to hindge the club upwards. You form a "L." On the downswing, you need to reform that "L" at roughly the same spot. There are several causes, but most people who cast start their downswing with their hands. They THROW the club at the ball.
