Swing plane help

I have noticed part of why my swing is so inconsistent I believe is I tend to swing too steep. One day my irons are crisp with a nice shalow divot after the ball, the next day I am turfing the ball 20 yards to the right with a deep divot shank.

I recognize the timing of my hips to be a great challenge, therefore if I don't time it correctly I am too steep. Is there some swing thought, key or drill to optimize a shallow downswing?

Thanks.

Re: Swing plane help

You might be swaying your hips too far back in your backswing there for causing you to catch up and that could be part of it but that usually promotes a duck hook. IDK to be honest just trying to help.

Re: Swing plane help

One factor that can cause too steep a swing path is a lack of proper rotation on the backswing. As a result, everything becomes too cramped and the swing path will be narrow and steep.

Re: Swing plane help

This is a bit hard to explain in text but here goes:

When you slide your hips in the downswing you may be creating a pivot way down around your belt buckle, this throws your hips and legs forward from this point but your torso, shoulders and head backwards. This creates the classic reverse pivot that puts your weight on the back foot in the downswing with your upper body bending way right. All the club can now do is hit the ground before the ball.

Try to create that pivot point somewhere in the centre of your upper chest, right between your shoulders. This will push your weight onto your front leg as your hips slide and rotate forward, only your head and upper torso will stay behind the ball through impact. You should then be able to make a powerful crisp contact with the ball.

Hope this helps?

PS.

here is a picture that may help to describe the position:

Um, yeah - but it's actually 2 swing thoughts:
1. Get your hips to turn as level as possible, as if it's the wheel on an inclides axis (the axis is your spine)
2. Get your hips to beat the club to impact (getting your hips open at impact).

Beware: you may thin a few for a while until you get your timing dialled in. Stick with it and I promise you'll hit great iron shots.
