Casting I tend to cast the club (usually outside of the target line) at the very last moment before impact. Basically, I begin to release the club as my hands are coming down (I am not casting from the top). I'm sure this is a mental issue where I'm trying to help the ball into the air or steer it in the right direction. This causes me to either push the ball right or hit it directly left with a little hook. My divots come across the ball, which tells me I'm coming from the outside. The big problem is that I know I am doing this but can not stop. Are there any drills that can help me? Thanks!

Re: Casting Here is the simple truth, SHOULDERS control path, so you are most probably, as are millions of other, trying to hit the ball with your shoulder, stop doing that...if your shoulder line outraces your hands to the ball, they will point left of the target and so shall the swing path. Gave some advise in the thread "Slot" above, it applies here as well, start the downswing with the arms dropping a little before you begin the shoulder turn to give your hands and hips a little head start to the ball. Speaking body parts, every thing has it's own pace and not all of them have the same distance to travel, the hips get to the ball first, followed by the arms, shoulders, then hands and finally the clubhead. Now you would think the shoulders have the furthest to go, they have to travel 90 degrees, but actually they don't have the furthest, shoulders are only around 2/3 the width of the length of the arms, so if you look at the circle of travels, the arch made by the hands, excluding the clubhead have the biggest area to cover, so they need that little head start back to the ball.

Re: Casting Thank you! When I slowed down my swing, I found that I am basically starting with my shoulders and it is impossible to keep the club from going outside the target line. I'll be sure to work on this. PS - Go Navy! I've lived in Annapolis my entire life.
