Weight shift Q - advanced analysis needed

Bought Stan Utley's "Art of Short Game" in which he recommends more weight on the left side for short game shots. Tried it and liked it, much better contact with the ball, hiting fat seems to be a thing in the past, but give me neough time...

Anyway, I began experimenting with this in my full swing. Moving more weight over to m left side and levelling my shoulders (they are square but the right isn't dipping as much). Rotating I fell how my weight moves over to my right side, but there is still tension in my left leg, specifically on the inside below my knee. This results in absolutely crisp shots, or some nasty slices or ball being hit too close to the hosel. The good shots require much less effort than my present swing/method.

So my question is, should you set up with more weight towards your left side provided it moves right in the backswing (this requires a full shoulder turn), and if you do so, what are the possible problem areas? I read a lot about 60/40 or 70/30 distribution, but not having any method of measuring this, it doesn't really help. Feeling a tilt towards the target in my upper body and tension in my left leg I understand. Should I feel something else?

New to this site but enjoy reading the posts.

Isn't it amazing how we all seem to have the same issues about golf and the right way to fix it.

I've been in a golf group for over two years, learning the game as I go. Everyone wants to help and they all have advice so I always felt obligated to try their tips while my game worsened weekly.

I quit taking advice and started working on MY GAME.

My problem was making solid contact with the ball consistentl, topping the ball causing it to dribble off the tee to the ladies tee box.

I was watching a program on the golf channel called the turn and they were talking about a shot a golfer made, 274 yards from a downhill lie to an elevated green, they explained that he put a little more weight on his left side and swung the hybrid with the slope of the lie rather than trying to lift the ball. Oh my golfing God, I tried this method tuesday and I am making better contact than I ever have, the ball is coming up quickly and going like it was shot out of a cannon, even with long irons.

Everything seems to be better because of this tiny bit of advice that has worked for me. This may not work for you but it might be worth a try if you're laying back on you're right side at impact.

Re: Weight shift Q - advanced analysis needed

I don't know if some of you remember, but back in the 80's John Schlee wrote a book called Maximum Golf. It was all about setting up with more weight on the left side, utilizing the base of your spine as the pivot point and eliminating unnecessary lateral motion. If you ever get a chance to see the book it has some great information.
There was also a video produced.
