| Cup or Cock right wrist at start of backswing??? Hi, is anyone able to tell me what is the correct movement after the shoulders have started the backswing and the club is 10" away from the ball. Should the right wrist Cock only??? Cup only????? or a combination of the both. Obviously at the top of the backswing the right wrist should be both cocked and cupped, but which should happen first before the arms have reached the 9 oclock position. Thanks  |

| Re: Cup or Cock right wrist at start of backswing??? Just let it happen, don't think too much about it. You have to achieve two adjustments as you bring the club to the top. There is more than one way to do it but rotate to 9 O' clock, clubface toe pointing straight up, cock the wrists upwards, lift the arms to the top across the chest while rotating the forearms slightly clockwise which will cock the right wrist while keeping the left fairly flat. This last rotation of the forearms brings the clubface on plane. I like to set the wrists very early in the backswing so all I need to do then is rotate and lift.

The action of the RH (RH Golfer) that works for me is that of the final position for shooting a basketball: the hand is flexed back (like you're trying to fold the back of your hand onto the top of your forearm). The left hand has a flat left wrist that move along the thumb/pinkie line. It shouldn't move as though you're trying to touch your palm to the inside of your forearm. |

I saw a video where Gary Player is saying that any player that doesnt Cup the right hand and as you said "make like a basket ball" shot will be in danger of not being on plane. I find I hit it sweet when I cup but I cut my driver and fat my irons. That much wrist action is not what I'm used to. |

| Re: Cup or Cock right wrist at start of backswing??? Some will caution you not to set your wrists too early as you risk losing the width in your swing. Personally I think I cup mainly by the time I reach 9 o'clock, then them from there it's easier to just cock and lift arms. |
