Help me stop fatting!!! Please!!!

I knowthere are numerous threads on here about Fat shots, but I thought I would wake up the subject. I think I found the feeling of Greg's right hand drill, and when I have a solid strike it feels great. But that doesn't happen as much as I would like it to. I am hitting my driver great putting well, short game is above average for an amateur. If I can get my approch shot on the green I would be shootig low 70's easy. Anyone have any good drill i can work on at home to help me stop fatting my iron shots. It may be diffacult without seeing my swing to diagnose the exact problem. I feel like it could be a spine angle thing, but I'm not sure. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Nick

Have the lie angles checked.
Also, could be swaying.
What direction are the divots pointing?
Check your distance from the ball.
Also, take some practice swings and notice where the club is bottomed out, ie. the bottom of your swing arc and move the ball position accordingly.

Re: Help me stop fatting!!! Please!!!

OK, to hit fat you are lowering your swing arc to that set at address. There can be a number of reasons for this:

Lowering yourself in the downswing due to having your weight on the front of your feet.

Poor weight transfer allowing your weight to stay on the back foot during the downswing creating a reverse pivot.

Ball position, do you play the ball back in your stance?

Take some swings without a ball on some grass, see where your swing arc bottoms out and strikes the ground. Make suitable adjustments from the above points so that the bottom of your arc is in front of the ball position with mid to short irons and at the back of the ball with the 5 iron and longer.

Re: Help me stop fatting!!! Please!!!

I like Brians poor weight transfer and lowering myself with weight on front of my feet. I have struggled with both.

Re: Help me stop fatting!!! Please!!!

It may be a bit extreme but try hitting with straight legs. It will at least isolate where the problems are. If you are still fatting it with straight legs then you know it must be your hands. If it stops then you know it must be too much leg action or the inability to clear your body.

Re: Help me stop fatting!!! Please!!!

I do feel like I'm falling forward at times in my follow through. I think after taking some swings last night to try to pin point the problem that I am raising my shoulders a little in the backswing. Maybe I'm dropping my shoulders to the groung on the downswing to compensate? I stopped my swaying problem a while back. I feel like I have a god weigt transfer. My ball position is usually center or a little ahead of center depending on the club. Thanks for the replies so far I appreciate everyone's help.

In that case you may be swaying forward in the downswing. make sure you keep your head behind the ball through impact.

Re: Help me stop fatting!!! Please!!!

That may be the case. I do feel like my head moves forward in my downswing. I wish I had some video. i might just take a lesson so I can get my swing on video to try to adress the problem more accurately. That sounds like it may be the culprit though. I will give it a try and let you know what happens.
